How to play PineIsle Golf Club
Small targets lead to better misses.
When standing on the 1st tee at PineIsle Golf Club, are you simply lining up towards the fairway, or have one picked out a “small and specific” target? When all we do is line up down the middle, we sometimes make swings with little direction or purpose. And the result is often a severely missed shot that leads to higher scores. Try a different approach next time and pick out a very specific target from the tee box – maybe the 150-yard marker, a tall tree at the corner of a dogleg or even the edge of a distant fairway bunker. Once you have this target, imagine a straight line running directly from the tee box to your target. Now step up, align yourself with your target, and make your same “smooth” and “confident” swing. You may be surprised with your results and your playing partners will be confused about why your playing from the short grass as they wonder through the woods.
Playing under the wind.
Wind can be quite an obstacle, as many golfers try to play “through” it rather than “under” it. By simply moving your ball position, you can lower your ball flight and counteract the wind’s influence on your golf ball. So next time you find yourself along Lake Lanier on a windy day, try positioning your golf ball one or two balls back in your stance. Make your “smooth” swing, making sure to follow through directly towards your target. The result will be a lower ball flight (essentially playing under the wind) that will allow the ball to fly further in the windy conditions. Remember your ball will release and roll further once it lands.
