New Beginnings for Golf
Lake Lanier Islands Resort breaks ground on Emerald Pointe Renovations
While PineIsle’s breathtaking greens are rolling fast and true, and the course is a beautiful as ever, more excitement is happening on Lake Lanier Islands Resort’s other course - Emerald Pointe. Closed since the beginning of 2007, the course is being redesigned and renovated by local Atlanta golf course design firm Billy Fuller Golf Design.
The redesign of the course will create more stunning views of Lake Lanier and will return to the Golden Era of golf. Some of the new features include:
- Completely renovated greens with new mini-verde Bermuda
- Larger tee boxes
- New bunker design - Billy Bunkers
- Additional yardage to lengthen golf course
- New concrete cart paths
- State-of-the-art-irrigation
- New golf cart fleet.
This Golden Era design will provide new challenges for the experienced golfer, while providing an exceptional experience for the casual golfer.
Until then, PineIsle’s spectacular views of Lake Lanier make for a great outing. And if you make your tee time through PineIsle by calling 678.318.7861, your round will include green fee, cart fee, range balls AND the gate fee to Lake Lanier Islands Resort. We look forward to seeing you on the greens.

Lake Lanier Islands Golf Academy
If you’re looking to improve your game, The Lake Lanier Islands Golf Academy offers a variety of lessons and clinics designed to help golfers improve their game and group programs that entertain and educate guests at tournaments and meetings. In our Lesson and Academy Programs, Academy Instructors work with you individually to develop a plan to achieve your goals with the latest technology and training aids.
Here’s a tip from Academy Director Chris Henderson:
To execute chip shots consistently, your address position must be correct. Stand with your feet approximately 6” apart and open slightly to the target. Grip down slightly on the club for control, placing your hands off of the inner left thigh (for a right handed player). Play the ball in the middle of your stance, with 70 - 80% of your weight on the left foot. From this position, make your normal putting motion, keeping your weight on the left side for the entire swing. Leaving your weight left promotes a slightly descending angle of attack to the ball, allowing you to get the clubface under the ball without hitting down too much or scooping. Hitting down can cause you to hit too far behind the ball. Scooping will usually cause you to hit the shot thin.
The key to getting your chip shots closer to the hole is to evaluate the situation and select the correct club for the shot you decide to play. Since the address position and motion for all chips in the same, club selection is the critical factor. Keep the ball low by using a 7 iron whenever you can, since low shots are easier to control. If you need to play a higher shot, use a club with more loft and let the loft of the club get the ball in the air. Many poor chips are caused by trying to hit down on the ball too much or trying to scoop the ball in the air.
